4/23/08 Update
We've got some not-so-great news on MIlo today.  His left elbow took a turn for the worse over the weekend.  We're not sure
why, but he's developed a sore on it again, was limping over the weekend, and the elbow is definitely swollen.  I put him on
antibiotics and bandaged him back up again (he's been chewing on the bandages all weekend - he hates those things!).  My
friend Lisa and I just changed his bandages and I'm happy to say that the swelling has gone down.  If it doesn't continue to get
better, he'll have to go back to the vet for another check.  The neutering last week went very well and he's almost completely
recovered from that.
5/1/08 Update
Milo's elbow is beginning to heal, but is still quite swollen.  We were hoping we wouldn't even have to do surgery, but it looks
like we will.  He is still walking uncomfortably, and is still in pain after he gets tired.  Milo and Sophie (his sister) got into a
sibling tiff the other day.  Sophie is beginning to get jealous of the attention Milo gets and was letting him know about it.  Mary
saw it coming and tried to step in and grab Sophie
before it happened, but too late!  Mary came out of it worse than the dogs
with a bite on her arm, and somehow got a tooth snagged into her thigh.  You'd think with all the dogs she's had that she'd learn
to stay out of the way, but no...
5/30/08 Update
Wow - it's been awhile since I've put an update on here!  I had surgery on my own wrist on May 7th, and have been recuperating
right along with Milo since then!  I think a higher power put me through this so that I'll have more compassion for Milo when he
goes through HIS surgery!  Milo is doing very well!  His elbow is still has some swelling in it and he'll need to go on , and he's
getting around quite well.  I'll have to have my friend Lisa come over and videotape again so we can update his walkin' video!
We are coming down to crunch time with the money situation as his surgery is supposed to happen as soon as he's full size and
he's almost there.  Milo has definitely caught up emotionally and maturity-wise with his actual age.  He has been testing me
almost beyond my patience tolerance level and is acting every bit like the young pup he is!   What a little trouble maker.  :)
Milo has definitely been making up for the time lost when he couldn't walk!  He's a clutz, and is
pushing me to the limits of my patience.  Overall, he's extremely loving as well as doing great in
obedience training.  His personality is wonderful!  He loves kids, he loves dogs, he loves people!  His
only drawback is that he doesn't really know how big he is.  He thinks he's smaller than he is so
knocks alot of stuff over and gets a little rough with the smaller dogs.  I have to watch my knees too
so he doesn't take me out with his 60 lbs. of muscle when he's playing!  When he does anything
wrong and is corrected, he just looks at me like, "Is that all ya got?  I used to get a whole lot worse
than that where I came from!"

Milo is extremely curious about things.  He loves to watch things ... like the hose; or someone
brushing their teeth, or putting on deodorant.  You can just see the wheels turning as he's trying to
figure out what you're doing.  He LOVES to plop up on the recliner and sit with my little 11-year old
Dachsund, Ginger.  Poor Gin-gin.  Go check out our Milo Photo Album for pictures of Milo on
Ginger's head!  He also likes to steal my clients' shoes ... life is a great game to Milo.

Milo is still walking with a limp, and now needs physical therapy to gain strength in his back hips and
legs; they are definitely weak.  Poor dog; if it's not one thing, it's another with him!  On the plus
side, his wounds are almost completely healed except for one elbow.  He's been back on antibiotics
since I last wrote so the swelling isn't nearly as bad as it was.  He does occasionally tear his pads as
they aren't as thick as other dogs', and tore one today.  We'll be tending to that at bedtime when he
quiets down a bit.

Before we can see the orthopedic specialist again, Milo has to be at full body size and weight, and
totally healed.  No open sores at all whatsoever, anywhere.  We are estimating surgery at about
August or September instead of July.  We still believe that the surgery won't have to be as drastic
and invasive as we had originally thought, but don't think it will be a cake walk for him OR his
caretakers either.  I just had my wrist fused last month and it wasn't fun at all, and still isn't.  Milo
will have to have BOTH of his wrists fused.  (
By the way - this seems to be a good place to let you
know that we're still short about $4,000 for Milo's surgery.)  The good news in all this is that with the
research I've done on his wounds and healing processes with his type of injuries, he's healing much
faster than many dogs in his condition would.  A good portion of the dogs in the research had wounds
that were not as severe as Milo's and didn't even make it!  This says alot about Milo's spirit and love
for life.  With that, stay tuned and check back in a few days for a new video of Milo walking, and
some new pictures as well.
