I want to give a heart felt thanks to everyone on behalf of Milo and myself. Milo has another Dr. apt. on 3/11 with Dr. Tam :) more pre-surgery stuff, checking health. He is so sweet and cute, I can't imagine just now learning to play and trust, he's so full of life and love to give. March 18th he starts some modified basic obedience with Trudy Kiefer at DSA Dogsports. I continue to work with passive range of motion and massage with him, I told him that I wasn't going to continue to carry him around forever... He already knows how to work me:) But he knows I love it. I'm looking forward to see what he does for all of us.... we can all learn from his unfortunate tragedy. We all could be more loving and responsible pet owners. And later he would like to be able to help other underdogs and others disabled. Animal control came out today for my hobby kennel renewal and thought he was so wonderful, but said he was going to be a special needs dog for the rest of his life. so she thought he was in the best place. More later... and soon more pics coming... :) Lots of love Mary & milo
3/18/08 Update Milo's last vet appointment with Dr. Tam was 3/11/08. He is now at 44 lbs!! When we found him on 2/9/08, he was less than 20 lbs. The reports of his most recent blood work show that he is still anemic, and we are still working on that. Milo starts his obedience training with his first class TONIGHT - that should be interesting. Milo has had both human and dog visitors and shows absolutely no aggression towards his visitors. Another victory for this little dog! Milo's next appointment with the orthopedic specialist, Dr. Fry, is March 21st to check his wound healing progress. He will be neutered on April 15th, and we are looking at May for his surgery to correct the birth defect. All in all, he is doing quite well and I'm very pleased with his progress. Keep those donations coming - he's going to need them!
3/19/08 Update Milo saw a lawn mower for the first time today that Momma started, and ran faster than he's moved so far! It scared the holy beejeebers out of him. He did go so far as to come within 10 feet of it though! An excellent "socialization with machinery" moment.

3/23/08 Update Milo visted Dr. Fry last Friday. I thought I was in trouble because he wanted to "talk" to me... I've been doing alot of Milo's rehab (stretching of feet and legs, exercise, etc.) myself because of my background. I thought that the Dr. was going to be mad because I was doing it myself, but what he said to me was "whatever you're doing for and with this dog, KEEP IT UP!" He also said he might even send his patients to me for rehab! He never thought MIlo would look as good as he does right now. He said he will still need the surgery and wants to wait until late June or early July because at that point Milo should be close to full size and the surgery won't be as stressful on him. He also said that at the rate Milo is improving, he may not have to do as extensive of a surgery as we initially thought. His recovery will be much better and so will his quality of life. WOO HOO! Also, KOMO 4 emailed to check on Milo's progress. I gave them this new website address for them to update. They may be interested in a followup story at some point. Stay tuned - and please continue spreading the word as we still need donations.

4/16/08 Update Milo continues to improve. He was neutered yesterday (I think he knew what was coming as he whined all the way to the table), and is doing well with that. He now weighs 53.4 pounds, which is an increase of over 30 lbs since he was found! He experienced his first loss of friend this weekend. We lost a family member when we had to have my 11 year old Italian Greyhound, Zipper, put down (the 5th dog I've had to have put down in 4 years). Milo was subdued and somewhat quiet for a few days afterwards, but seems to have adjusted now. Once he heals from the neutering, he'll be doing well! I hope I can say the same for myself. Anyway, It looks like Milo's surgery may be scheduled for early June. This will be a major fusing of his front legs to give him support so that he can walk relatively pain-free. We're looking forward to it! Keep up the good wishes and positive energy on our behalf. Milo would want to tell you all "THANK YOU ALL FOR LIGHTENING MY HUMAN MOM'S LOAD!"
